Kamloops firefighters snuff out small grass fire near Overlanders Bridge

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops firefighters took down a small grass fire along the Thompson River near Overlanders Bridge that was giving off a lot of smoke Friday evening (Oct. 2).

Kamloops Fire Rescue members had to access the fire near Overlanders Bridge with a bush truck using Rivers Trail because direct access was blocked by fencing around the rail tracks.

Platoon Chief Kris Krutop said smoke from the fire might have made the fire look dramatic, but it was not a major incident.

“Just because of the nature of the fuel, like the wet grass, it might have looked spectacular, but it’s not really unusual for that area,” said Krutop.
