Impairment suspected in highway crash that injures two near Williams Lake

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — A driver and a passenger had to be extricated from a vehicle after a collision on the Cariboo Highway south of Williams Lake.

Williams Lake RCMP say officers responded to a head-on collision on Highway 97 at Mission Road at around 6:30 p.m. last Friday (Sept. 25) where two occupants were found trapped in an SUV. Police say the duo sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

“Upon further investigation it was determined that a pickup truck was driving southbound on Highway 97 and struck the SUV that suddenly pulled into the right-hand lane,” RCMP say. “The highway was shut down briefly for investigative purposes. Alcohol impairment was suspected.”

The investigation is ongoing.
