Blazers to face Rockets for first time since first-round sweep

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Blazers’ veteran defenceman Isa Guram has not forgotten what happened in the 2026 WHL playoffs.

The Kelowna Rockets swept the Blazers in four straight games in the opening round.

“Yeah, for sure it’s added motivation for us to go into their barn and get a win,” Guram said. “We have two big games here, a B.C. Division rivalry – important games, for sure.”

Kelowna is slated to host Kamloops on Friday (Oct. 2), a 7:05 p.m. start at Prospera Place. The rematch is scheduled to get underway at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at Sandman Centre.

Injured Blazers’ overage forward Gavin Nemis is not expected to play on Friday, but there is a chance he returns to the lineup on Saturday.

With an overabundance of forwards on the roster and young players coming on strong, older veterans know they are being pushed to produce up front.

“One-hundred per cent,” Blazers’ overage forward Cooper Moore said. “We have a deep lineup and a lot of the young guys can play up, so it pushes all the older guys and returnees to be better. In that third period of the Portland game, we were pushing. We were all over them. We’ve just got to keep playing our game, and keep playing play fast. That’s when we’re at our best.”

Kamloops has one win and two losses this season. Kelowna has one win, one loss and one overtime defeat.
