Planned Monte Lake-area pile burning project may begin October 5
MONTE LAKE, B.C. – The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is planning a large pile burning project in the Monte Lake area, which could get underway as early as Monday (Oct. 5), if weather and site conditions allow.
In a news release, BCWS said the project will be done in partnership with the Okanagan Shuswap Natural Resource District. Work is set to take place about four kilometres south of Monte Lake, and it will involve the burning of approximately 100 piles as conditions allow.
The BC Wildfire Service said key goals of this project include:
- Removal of dead/burnt trees within striking distance of a new proposed fence line
- Bucking and piling of felled trees and debris
- Burning of piles to remove fire hazard and debris build up
- Providing critical saw training opportunities for wildfire ground crews
