Wood waste fire closes Sicamous landfill Monday

SICAMOUS, B.C. — A fire at the Sicamous landfill’s wood waste pile Monday morning (Sept. 28) has led to the facility being closed for the day while firefighters battle the flames.

The fire broke out shortly after 8:00 a.m. and Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) said Sicamous Fire Rescue crews are working to snuff out the blaze.

“The CSRD appreciates the efforts of local firefighters and CSRD contractors as they work to contain the fire,” said the regional district.

“Due to the safety of the public and fire crews, the landfill site is being closed.”
