Merritt ER closed for second successive night

MERRITT — The emergency room in Merritt has been closed on two successive nights this week, with the closures coming one day after the community’s mayor called out the BC NDP’s healthcare promise.
Interior Health says the ER at the Nicola Valley Hospital will be closed for 13 hours between 6:00 p.m. Saturday (Sept 26) and 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning. It was also closed between 7:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 25) and 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
Information regarding Saturday evening’s closure was set out just before 5:30 p.m., while information about Friday’s closure was released right at at 7:30 p.m. In both instances, people in the Merritt area in need of emergency care were told to head to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
There have been 14 ER closures this year, and they’ve all happened since the middle of June.
