September 25 Declared “Dolly Parton Day” In Multiple Cities And States

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed bill SB 931, officially designating September 25 as Dolly Parton Day statewide. The date references her iconic hit “9 to 5.” Co-author state Sen. Shannon Grove praised Parton’s literacy legacy, saying, “Dolly Parton sparkled on every stage she ever stood on, but her brightest sparkle was the literacy legacy she built through the Imagination Library.” San Francisco will host a free “Dolly Day” celebration featuring music and remembrance. Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell also declared September 25 Dolly Parton Day, with citywide events concluding with fireworks. Portland, Oregon, joined in, with city council president Jamie Dunphy urging residents to “celebrate Dolly the way she lived.” Texas’ Montgomery and Hayes counties passed similar resolutions.
