DASHCAM VIDEO: Novice Kamloops driver loses license following impaired driving crash in Langley

LANGLEY, B.C. — A weekend impaired driving incident in Langley has landed a Kamloops novice driver with a damaged truck and a revoked license.

At about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 19), Langley RCMP said a call came in from a witness following a Ford Ranger along Highway 1 near Langley’s 264 Street exit.

Police officials said the Ranger was spotted swerving and driving on the shoulder, with a witness relaying the details to the police dispatcher as it was happening.

As the witness was on the call, the truck crashed into a cement barrier, swerved across the highway and came to a stop on the shoulder of the road.

Shortly after, officers arrived on the scene to attend to the truck’s driver, a 23-year-old man from Kamloops.

Langley RCMP officials said the man showed signs of impairment, which was confirmed when the man failed a roadside test.

The incident resulted in a 90-day driving ban, a 30-day vehicle impound with fees the driver will need to pay for, and an additional $500 fine.

“We are thankful that this driver’s ambitious goal to drive to Kamloops from Burnaby did not end in a fatality,” said Corporal Mansoor Sahak with the Langley RCMP.

“Impaired driving is the leading cause of criminal deaths in Canada and it is totally preventable. “We are thankful for the witness who called police about this impaired driver.”

Langley RCMP officials said suspected impaired drivers should be reported to 911 immediately.
