Blazers drop home opener 4-2 to Royals

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers dropped their season opening game on home ice 4-2 to the Victoria Royals at Sandman Centre on Saturday night (Sept 19).

The Blazers two goals were scored by centre Andrew Thomson, earning him second star of the game for his performance.

Royals’ Hayden Moore opened the scoreboard with the lone goal in the first period 10:06 into play.

Thomson scored on a power play with an assist from Mateo Ferreira 4:41 into the second period.

Ten minutes later, Royals’ Cruz Waltze netted a shot, bringing the score to 2-1 to close out the second period.

Thomson opened up the third period scoring with another power play point for the Blazers at at 13:24.

Royals’ Marek Peroutka and Caleb Matthews both scored power play goals of their own at 15:18 and 18:31, securing the 4-2 win for the Royals.

The Blazers will head to Toyota Center in Kennewick, Washington to face off against the Tri-City Americans
