Western Canada Theatre settles legal dispute with former artistic director outside of court

KAMLOOPS — Western Canada Theatre (WCT) and its former artistic director have settled their legal matters outside of court. 

On Aug. 14, a notice of discontinuance was filed in B.C. Supreme Court regarding James MacDonald’s lawsuit against WCT. 

In a joint news release issued Friday (Sept. 11), WCT says it remains grateful for MacDonald’s contributions during his eight-year tenure as artistic director. MacDonald also says he was fortunate to play a part in WCT’s 50-year history. 

“I am particularly thankful to have been part of the development of the Kamloops Centre for the Arts and Kelson Hall, two new jewels in the Kamloops community,” MacDonald states. “My gratitude to the WCT staff, board, artists, volunteers, audiences, donors, sponsors and media for their support over my eight years in Kamloops. And thanks also to the entire city of Kamloops for their pride in our community, and their belief in the arts as a fundamentally important part of making our city a terrific place to live.”
