TRU WolfPack to brave ThunderFest Day Festival crowd in Vikes’ home opener

“I think it’s crazy,” said Hannah Saxon, the WolfPack rookie from Auckland, New Zealand. “I personally like playing with a big atmosphere, especially when the other team is against you, the supporters. I think it just makes us girls want to work harder and then show them who we are so we can beat them.”

Pennington said there is plenty to work on, but you won’t catch him complaining too much after a 2-0 start to the Canada West campaign.

“We got the points, which is what we wanted to do,” Pennington said. “We wanted to be coming home 2-0, and [we had] so some super encouraging performances, especially from some of the first-years.”

Saxon made a splash on the opening weekend of her U Sports career, registering the match-winner in a 1-0 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves last Friday in Prince George.

“It’s definitely unreal,” she said. “I wasn’t expecting to get a goal, that’s for sure. But yeah, it’s good to have it under my belt and then the assist.”

Albanian juggernaut and All-Canadian Esi Lufo continued her goal-scoring ways last Sunday in Kelowna, tallying the winner in a 2-1 win over UBC Okanagan in Kelowna. Saxon had an assist in that match.

“It makes us feel more confident and because I scored in the second one, it helps me as an individual to be there for my teammates,” said Lufo, who bagged nine goals in 14 games last season.

The WolfPack (2-0) will wrap the weekend with a match against the Fraser Valley Cascades (1-1) on Saturday in Abbotsford.
