Rick Springfield Reflects On Killing Man During Vietnam War Tour Visit

Rick Springfield has opened up about a haunting wartime experience from his teenage years. Speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience, the 77-year-old “Jessie’s Girl” singer recalled traveling to Vietnam in 1968 at age 17 to entertain U.S. troops. While staying at a Navy encampment near Da Nang’s Marble Mountains, his group came under attack. Springfield fired mortars from a radio shack bunker, later learning he had struck and killed a Viet Cong soldier. “It’s hard for me to face that I was responsible for the end of a life,” Springfield told Rogan. The Australian-born singer first documented the incident in his 2010 memoir, Late, Late at Night, describing it as something that “still sends a shiver down my spine.”
