Restored Shuswap trails reopen three years after massive wildfire rips through

KAMLOOPS — Three years after sustaining severe damage due to the massive Bush Creek East wildfire, a pair of popular trails in the Shuswap have reopened. 

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) says the Mt. Baldy Trailhead near Sorrento and the Scotch Creek-Hlina Trail in the North Shuswap are ready for visitors as of Tuesday (Sept. 8). 

In a news release, the CSRD says it received Disaster Financial Assistance from the B.C. government and partnered with the Shuswap Trail Alliance to plan and carry out the rebuilding work. 

“Restoring the trails required significant planning and field work, including danger tree assessments and removals, trail reroutes, and replacement of signs, bridges and boardwalks,” the CSRD states. “A landslide assessment was also completed at Mt. Baldy to determine how the trail could be safely re-established.”
