Blazers fall to Vees in overtime 4-3 in pre-season game

A pair of WHL veterans got the Blazers the lead in the third period. Ty Coupland and Andrew Thomson scored their first goals of the pre-season to put Kamloops up 3-2 with just over five minutes remaining. Trace Frieden, a 19-year-old forward who scored nine goals and 35 points in 39 BCHL games with the Cowichan Valley Capitals last season and was the 19th overall pick in the 2022 WHL US Prospects Draft, added a pair of assists on Coupland and Thomson’s goals.

However, the Vees tied the game at 3-3 nearly two minutes later and forced overtime. Tyden Bergeson scored the game winning goal 3:13 into overtime. 

Logan Edmonstone, the Blazers starting goaltender for 2025-26, made 20 saves on 24 shots in 63 minutes played. 

The Blazers have a regulation win, a shootout win, an overtime loss and a shootout loss in four pre-season games. The Blazers wrap up their exhibition schedule this weekend, visiting the Prince George Cougars in Quesnel Saturday (Sept. 12) before hosting the Cougars Sunday (Sept. 13) at 5:00 p.m. from Sandman Centre.
