TNRD rescinds final evacuation alerts from wildfire season

Effective 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, the TNRD gave people in approximately 142 addressed properties within Electoral Areas “E” (Bonaparte Plateau) and “I” (Blue Sky Country) the ‘all clear’ from the Pear Lake fire as follows:

Another alert that covered approximately five properties – 9180 West Pavilion Rd., 9320 Empire Valley Big Bar Rd., 7633, 7780 and 8410 Watson Bar Rd as well as Blackdome Mine – in Electoral Area “E” that were impacted by the French Bar Creek wildfire was lifted about around 10:00 am Tuesday.

The TNRD also lifted an evacuation alert that covered approximately 248 addressed properties in Electoral Area “N” (Beautiful Nicola Valley – South) that were being threated by the Ainslie Creek wildfire east of Boston Bar.

Skrepnek cautioned that should conditions change, the TNRD may reissue an evacuation order or alert, as necessary. 

“Realistically, [those fires] are going to burn until the snow flies in some areas,” Skrepnek said. “It’s great news that we no longer have any alerts or orders in place but certainly there is still potential both with these fires and just given that it looks to be staying dry for the next week or so here, the potential for other fires going forward.”

As it stands, the Pear Lake wildfire near Clinton is an estimated 1,659 sq. kilometres (165,909.4 hectares) in size. Some evacuation orders and alerts issued by the Squamish Lillooet Regional District, Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band, Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation and Ts’kw’aylaxw First Nation are still in effect. 

The French Bar Creek wildfire, north of Big Bar Creek, is an 610.5 sq. kilometres (61,050 hectares) in size, and the High Bar First Nation still has an active evacuation order in effect. The Ainslie Creek Fire is currently estimated to be 677.2 sq. kilometres (67,722.48) hectares in size. 

“We’re still looking at about 120 properties impacted, all of those on the Pear Lake and Fiftynine Creek wildfires that eventually combined,” Skrepnek added. “In the neighbourhood of 30 of those were primary residences so actual homes that were lost and we’re working with those people.”

“We have a resiliency centre set up in Clinton that’s open two days a week and we’re in direct contact with folks and starting to look at some options for bringing in support to help with removing some of the debris off those impacted properties.”
