Tranquille Multi-Use Pathway construction to impact post-long weekend airport traffic

KAMLOOPS — Construction on a new multi-use pathway along the west side of Tranquille Road connecting Fulton Field Park to Airport Road is set to begin on Tuesday (Sept. 8).

In a statement, the City of Kamloops said work on the 600-metre path will start with mobilization, surveying and utility locating. It noted through September, crews will focus on site preparation and earthworks, which will include clearing, grubbing, stripping and embankment work.

Work on this project will continue through the next few months.

“Utility and infrastructure work, including street lighting and irrigation work, will continue into October,” the statement said. “Base construction of the path will follow later in the month, with finishing work, including topsoil, grading, planting, turf and hydroseeding completed afterward.”

“Asphalt paving is scheduled for the end of October, with project completion expected in early November. Some final works may be required in spring 2027 with minimal impacts.”

Traffic impacts will overlap with work on the Tranquille Phase 3 Project, but drivers wanting to get to the airport should make considerations for their route.

“Construction along Tranquille Road near Kamloops Airport will result in single-lane alternating traffic and potential delays. Access to YKA will remain open throughout the project,” added a social media post from the Kamloops Airport.

“If you’re catching a flight, plan ahead and allow extra travel time when heading to the airport to account for possible construction delays.”

The city said area residents and drivers should expect some noise, dust and traffic delays while crews are on the job.

“Traffic management measures will be in place as needed to help maintain access and assist motorists and pedestrians as they navigate through the area,” added the city statement from the city.
