Woman injured after bear attack in park outside Whistler: B.C. conservation officers

WHISTLER — A woman was taken to hospital after a bear attack in the backcountry outside the mountain resort town of Whistler, B.C.

B.C.’s Conservation Officer Service says in a social media post a trio of hikers came face to face with two bears near a lake in Callaghan Lake Provincial Park, just north of Whistler, on Friday evening.

A woman was attacked and then released by one of the animals, and the service says she was flown to hospital by helicopter where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Conservation Officer Service says it has since killed an adult male black bear after safety concerns arose at the site of the attack.
