“Warning signage has been placed in the area. Conservation Officers will continue to monitor bear activity in the area and respond as necessary to ensure public safety.”

This was the latest in a summer that saw several other bear attacks across southern B.C.

“The public is encouraged to familiarize themselves with safety precautions in case of wildlife encounters, including leashing pets and carrying bear spray,” said the BCCOS.

“Bears are dealing with drought conditions, and are active as they need to find berries and food in advance of hibernation.”

This is the ninth bear attack reported by the Conservation Officer Service since late June, including a black bear mauling a three-year-old girl in Maple Ridge on August 9.
