Scotch Creek Fire Department moves into new fire hall

“I’m excited for our firefighters, I’m excited for the community. The rebuilding of this hall represents the resilience, perseverance and progress in our recovery since that Bush Creek East fire in 2023,” said Coubrough.

“This is a really important step for our firefighters and our community as a whole.”

On Tuesday, the Scotch Creek/Lee Creek Fire Department held a flag raising ceremony to commemorate opening the new facility.

“These firefighters have been operating out of a storage facility since they lost their fire hall. For some of those members, this represents their first real fire hall,” said Coubrough.

“It’s a coming home for those who lost their hall and for some, it’s an exciting next chapter in having a new, fully functioning fire department with their own hall.”

Construction started in November 2025, with a budget of $5.6 million, more than double the $2.3 million that insurance paid out.

The original hall also held a community gathering space, which Coubrough said was included in the new building.

“It was rebuilt in the exact same fashion it was before: it has a community hall with a kitchen that could be rented out by members of the community. Beyond that, it really is a utilitarian fire hall. We didn’t go for a lot of bells and whistles, but it meets modern standards and it’s going to meet the needs of this community going into the future,” explained Coubrough.

Since moving in, the fire crew has already put the facility to good use and has been dispatched to a few calls.

“It’s already showing its worth. It’s a much more appropriate space for our firefighters to assemble, dress and respond out of. While we don’t look forward to having to put it to use, it’s definitely good for the community that we have this facility ready to go.”
