City of Kamloops downgrades to Drought Level 3, eases water restrictions

KAMLOOPS — Normal water use can resume in the City of Kamloops as it has downgraded its drought response to Level 3.

That means people can now water their lawns up to three times per week, instead of once a week – as was the case when Level 4 restrictions were implemented back on July 20. It also means trees, plants, shrubs and flowers can be watered using sprinklers up to three days a week, and there are no restrictions around washing of hard surfaces like sidewalks, driveways and patios.

A full breakdown of water restrictions in the City of Kamloops can be found h ere, and officials are still urging people to conserve water wherever possible.

“Water is critical to our city and to our environment, and conservation efforts should continue year-round,” the city said, in a statement. “Changing your watering habits and reducing the amount of water we use helps protect our ecosystems and reduces the energy used to pump, treat, and distribute water.

Recent rain and cooler temperatures has helped eased provincial drought levels to Level 3 in the South Thompson basin, which is what the city uses to base its restrictions on. The North and the Lower Thompson basins are both at Level 2, while the Nicola and the Okanagan river basins are at Level 4.
