Uber collective agreement expands to include rideshare drivers in Kamloops and area

KAMLOOPS — The “U” in Uber stands for “unionized” in Kamloops. 

United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1518 have announced Uber drivers in the B.C. Interior, including Kamloops and Kelowna, joined the union.

In a news release issued Wednesday (Sept. 2), UFCW says drivers in Passenger Transportation Board Region 4, which covers the Okanagan-Kootenay-Cariboo areas, will be covered by an agreement first negotiated by Uber drivers in Victoria in 2025. 

“Technology may be changing how people work, but it doesn’t change the fundamental principle that workers deserve a voice in the conditions of their work,” UFCW 1518 President Patrick Johnson says. “British Columbia continues to demonstrate what is possible when app-based workers organize and bargain collectively, and today is proof of that happening with more drivers directly seeing the benefits of that solidarity.”
