TFC acquires Scottish forward Lewis Morgan in trade with San Diego

TORONTO — Toronto FC has acquired forward Lewis Morgan from San Diego FC in exchange for a 2026 international roster slot, the Major League Soccer club announced Wednesday.

Morgan, 29, will join the club pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate, work permit, and medical clearance.

He has played seven MLS seasons with Inter Miami, Red Bull New York, and San Diego.

Morgan recorded three assists in 18 appearances for San Diego this season.

Prior to joining San Diego, Morgan registered 31 goals and 10 assists in 82 combined appearances with Red Bull. He was named the 2024 MLS Comeback Player of the Year after registering 13 goals and seven assists in 29 matches.

The Scottish forward began his professional career with St. Mirren outside Glasgow and later played for Celtic FC and Sunderland AFC on loan.

He has seven caps for Scotland, including appearances at UEFA Euro 2024 and the 2024-2025 UEFA Nations League.

“We are happy to add Lewis at this time,” Toronto general manager Jason Hernandez said in a release. “He has established himself as an impactful attacker in the Eastern Conference over the past several seasons.

“His flexibility to play across multiple positions in the attack will be a valuable quality for our group moving forward.”
