TNRD lifts evacuation alert for more than 200 properties near Clinton-area wildfire

CLINTON, B.C. — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has lifted evacuation alerts for more than 200 properties near the Pear Lake wildfire as fire activity dies down.

About 214 properties were given the “all clear” on Monday afternoon (Aug. 31), including Big Bar Lake, Little Big Bar Lake, Beaver Dam Lake, Big Bar Road from Highway 97 to Poison Lake Road, Meadow Lake Road from Highway 97 to east of Meadow Lake, and Highway 97 north of Clinton to south of 70 Mile.

The properties include:

900, 955 and 985 Beaver Dam Rd;
1320 to 1380 Beaver Rd;
75 to 4425 Big Bar Rd;
8400 to 8605 Big Bar Rd;
7701 Clinton Station Rd;
2272 to 2288 Cunningham Rd;
7515 and 7583 Danielson Rd;
1140 and 1260 Hooke Rd;
81, 115, 7727 to 9611 Hwy 97;
800 to 1402 Isadore Rd;
2629 to 3193 Little Big Bar Rd;
1792 to 2264 Marriot Rd;
25 to 1410 Meadow Lake Rd;
7620 to 7628 Meadow Lake Rd;
802 and 2504 River Lakes FSR;
3625 to 3655 Sharptail Rd;
104 to 280 Sorley Rd; and
Any other areas as outlined on the attached map.

The TNRD said about 142 addressed properties in Electoral Areas “E” (Bonaparte Plateau) and “I” (Blue Sky Country) remain under an evacuation alert.

Meantime, three addressed properties along Meadow Lake Road were downgraded from an evacuation order to an ‘all clear’.

According to the TNRD, the order will remain in place for a large area surrounding Pavilion Mountain with no addressed properties, which is south of Kelly Lake and Clinton within Electoral Areas “E” (Bonaparte Plateau) and “I” (Blue Sky Country).

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said crew battling the blaze had help from Mother Nature in recent days, however, fire activity could pick up in the days ahead.

“Yesterday (Aug. 30), between 1.6 and 3.4 millimetres of rain was recorded across the area. This will keep fire behaviour low today (Aug. 31),” said the BCWS.

“Sustained winds of 15–20 km/h with gusts up to 30 km/h are forecast this afternoon, increasing through tomorrow (Sept. 1). The strong wind, combined with cooler temperatures, will accelerate drying and could offset the benefit of recent precipitation.”

The lightning-caused fire was initially discovered on July 17 and has since grown to 166,117.4 hectares
