Tk’emlúps aiming to establish inland rail hub

“Funding will support the completion of key activities required to advance the project toward construction, including finalizing commercial commitments, engagement, technical and operational refinement, regulatory advancement, and investment attraction,” Casimir writes. “We also acknowledge the foundational work completed to date, including corridor analysis and demand assessment, which supports the justification for continued advancement of the 7Mile Rail project.”

The federal government announced the launch of calls for proposals for its $5 billion Trade Diversification Corridors Fund in March 2026. Steam 2, which Tk’emlúps aims to apply under, is a targeted call for applicants to address issues such as:

enhancing intermodal capacity to increase trade with non-United States markets, including potentially through inland ports
optimizing existing transportation assets to enable trade diversification to the core trade corridors to support overseas exports
increasing transportation capacity for bulk commodity exports

Sc.wenwen says the 7Mile location provides connectivity to CN and CPKC networks, direct access to Vancouver gateways and inland resiliency during corridor disruptions.

In a separate attachment in Kamloops council’s agenda Tuesday, Sc.wenwen says functions under consideration at the 7Mile Rail site include storage-in transit, buffer yard operations, breakbulk freight handling and bulk commodity, liquid and tank transloading.

The 7Mile Rail project is separate from the 7Mile Renewable Fuels project, a joint project between Tk’emlúps, Sc.wenwen and Azure Sustainable Fuels.
