Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has announced plans to rename Nashville International Airport after Dolly Parton, following the country legend’s death on August 25th. Lee stated that “it is fitting that Nashville International Airport would bear the name of our state’s favorite daughter.” Parton’s team expressed appreciation for the gesture and is “open to continuing the conversation.” Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell also voiced support, calling the renaming “a love letter to Dolly.” The Metro Nashville Airport Authority will discuss the proposal at a September 17th meeting. A Change.org petition supporting the rename had already gathered over 164,000 signatures by August 29th.
