KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack men’s soccer team got off on the right foot, and head, to start the 2026 Canada West season.

The WolfPack shut out the University of Victoria (UVic) Vikes 1-0 in their home opener Thursday (Aug. 27) at Hillside Stadium.

Kaelin Nguyen, a fourth-year striker from New Zealand, scored the WolfPack’s lone goal from the box in the 64th minute when he got a head on Lachlan Will’s pass.

The Vikes ran into foul trouble after trailing 1-0, receiving seven yellow cards. UVic was down to 10 men in the 86th minute as Alex Moody received his second yellow.

Goalkeeper Matteo Lamon made four saves to preserve the clean sheet for TRU.

The WolfPack are 1-0-0 to start the 2026 season. TRU was ranked the No. 9 men’s soccer team in Canada West going into their home opener, according to a coaches poll. The same poll had the Vikes ranked No. 3.

The WolfPack welcome the No. 5 ranked University of the Fraser Valley Cascades to Hillside Stadium Saturday (Aug. 29) at 2:00 p.m.

TRU women’s soccer team begins their season Friday, Sept. 4, in Prince George when they take on the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves.
