Wildfire near Little Fort being held; multiple fire departments respond

CLEARWATER, B.C. — Crews in the North Thompson region were able to prevent a late, notable wildfire near Little Fort from spreading further.

Blackpool Fire Rescue says its members, along with those from the BC Wildfire Service and the Chu Chua and Little Fort Fire Departments, responded to the fire north of the Little Fort Ferry station just after 9:00 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 26).

“The fire had started near the CN line and travelled uphill towards Windpass Road,” Blackpool Fire Rescue says in a social media post Thursday morning. “CN Rail stopped the trains and sent crews to assist with the fire from the tracks.”

By 3:00 a.m. Thursday, Blackpool Fire Rescue says all of the responding firefighters were able to extinguish the fire near Little Fort.

The BC Wildfire Service says the fire is being held at 0.32 hectares in size. It’s suspected to be human-caused.

“We would also like to thank the after-hours ferry operator for his service, Hidden Valley Ranch and the Fennel family for providing additional water tenders to help our crews,” Blackpool Fire Rescue says.

Little Fort Fire Department and an initial attack team from Chu Chua will join the wildfire service Thursday morning to finish up work on the fire.
