More evacuation alerts and orders lifted as crews battle Ainslie Creek wildfire
MERRITT, B.C. — The Cook’s Ferry Indian Band has rescinded its evacuation alert for areas north of the Ainslie Creek wildfire as the blaze becomes less active in the region.
The evacuation alert for IR No. 7 and IR No. 21 was lifted after initially being put in place on Aug. 11.
This comes as the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said fire activity in the northeastern part of the 67,722.48-hectare blaze — near Prospect Creek Forest Service Road — dies down.
“The control lines in the Prospect area continue to hold well, with minimal fire behaviour observed,” said the BCWS. “Crews continue to mop up in this area, helping to strengthen the long-term security of the perimeter. Aviation will continue to support suppression efforts as required.”
