The people behind the music celebrated with the latest exhibit at the Kamloops Museum

Orchestra’s wear black on purpose, it allows their instrument, and the music, to take centre stage. But through the Kamloops museums’ ‘Encore’ exhibit, those behind are getting the deserved spot light.

“We hide behind the instrument and behind the music, but it takes hours, decades of hard work, dedication to make what happens on stage happen so effortlessly,” added Young.

Putting the people first, that was the idea behind gathering 50 years of KSO history into one exhibit.

“What we need to do is just start to tell the story of how all of these things fit together, and that it is really about the people who make this all possible,” said Young.

“What was meaningful for everyone, what stories needed to be drawn out from the archives, how would be bring this exhibition to life together and what were the key pieces to showcase throughout,” said Kamloops Museum Supervisor Julia Cyr.

“And I think at the core of that is, as Christopher has said, it’s about the people and the music and community coming together.”

To remember the importance of music history would be pointless if not to allow Kamloops’ next generation to experience the thrills of performance on centre stage.

“So the KSO school has graciously lent us a couple hands-on string instruments, two violins and a cello and then we have also provided an electronic drum kit,” said Megan Fenhuber, Kamloops Museum Educator.

The future, built strongly atop the shoulders of 50 years of history, looks bright for the KSO with artists dreaming of their new home.

“And that is going to be just a powerful moment and that is after 50 years of hard work to make that happen it’s going to be absolutely amazing,” added Young.
