KAMLOOPS — Police are investigating after a transit bus driver in Kamloops was spat on.

Video submitted to CFJC Today shows a man spitting on a BC Transit driver during an interaction at the bus stop at Tranquille Road and Eighth Street. The videos shows the man being combative with a woman who attempted to guide him off the bus before another man gets into a physical confrontation with him. The man was eventually escorted off the bus by multiple passengers.

Unifor Local 114 is the union that represents BC Transit workers in Kamloops. Nate Shier, the local’s representative, told CFJC Today he has a meeting scheduled for Tuesday (Aug. 25) with First Canada ULC, the operating company for BC Transit in Kamloops, to discuss the spitting incident.

“It’s obviously very concerning to see that kind of behaviour exhibited towards a transit worker,” Shier says. “It’s not uncommon, unfortunately, in transit. We’ve got to start… investigating these kinds of incidents to try and better protect our drivers.”

Shier notes his investigation is still ongoing.

CFJC Today has contacted BC Transit for comment.
