TNRD downgrades evacuation order for two properties impacted by French Bar Creek wildfire

CLINTON, B.C. — An evacuation order has been downgraded to an evacuation alert for two properties within the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) impacted by the French Bar Creek wildfire. 

Effective 3:00 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 23), residents at 7129 and 7140 Empire Valley Road can return home, although they must be ready to leave again on very short notice. 

The TNRD says approximately 10 addressed properties within Electoral Area “E” (Bonaparte Plateau) remain on evacuation order. They include: 

  • Blackdome Mine 
  • PID 013-401-530, DL 5151, Lillooet District (near Lone Cabin Creek) 
  • 7633 and 7780 Watson Bar Rd. 
  • 7000 Empire Valley Rd. 
  • 9320 Empire Valley Rd. 
  • 8400 to 8605 Big Bar Rd. 
  • 8410 Watson Bar Rd. 
  • 9180 West Pavilion Rd. 
  • any other properties as outlined on the attached map

As of its latest update Sunday morning, the BC Wildfire Service says the wildfire near Big Bar Creek is measured at around 59,507.6 hectares in size. A structure protection crew, an incident management team and 21 helicopters are responding. 

“We continue to prioritize values protection on this incident,” the wildfire service says. “A structure protection crew has assessed and deployed apparatus on the south flank of this fire. They will be testing and maintaining systems as needed to ensure they are functioning properly should they need to be activated. 

“Heavy equipment repaired the wash out along the West Pavilion Road yesterday and danger tree assessment and falling will be starting along sections of the road where fire has burnt.” 

The wildfire service notes various amounts of precipitation was received across the French Bar Creek wildfire site from Saturday night to Sunday morning. A drying, warming trend is expected again starting Monday. 

Along with the TNRD, the Cariboo Regional District, High Bar First Nation and Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation also have evacuation orders and alerts in place in response to the French Bar Creek wildfire.
