‘Unauthorized waste’ disposed of in Tobiano sewer system

TOBIANO, B.C. — Residents in Tobiano are being alerted of disruptions to their wastewater treatment plant. 

In a notification Wednesday (Aug. 19) morning, Bluestem Utilities says it’s investigating a suspected “unauthorized disposal of concentrated waste” into the Tobiano sewer system. 

The utility company that operates and maintains water services for Tobiano says the local wastewater treatment facility is designed to handle typical residential and commercial wastewater. It says the introduction of other unauthorized waste can strain the facility, resulting in higher maintenance and operating costs. 

Anyone in the golf resort community west of Kamloops who witnessed unauthorized waste being disposed of in the Tobiano sewer system, or has information regarding it, is asked to contact Bluestem’s customer care line at 1-877-788-7277.
