Pear Lake fire evacuees told to prepare for re-entry ahead of virtual information session

The TNRD said the session is meant to help residents prepare for safe re-entry when evacuation orders are lifted, including details about hazards, clean-up, recovery and waste disposal.

“While an Evacuation Order remains in place for the Village of Clinton and approximately 449 addressed TNRD properties due to the Pear Lake wildfire, residents in and around Clinton should start preparing themselves for re-entry,” said TNRD officials.

“Wildfire activity is diminishing in many evacuated areas due to the Pear Lake wildfire, and significant progress has been made on re-establishing infrastructure and removing hazards to allow for safe re-entry.”

Even with that said, the BCWS expects the fire to get more aggressive after a short reprieve of higher humidity and some precipitation.

“As the brief rise in fuel moisture dries back out, wind remains a key driver of fire behaviour, and where winds increase or gust, elevated activity and growth are likely to continue,” said the BCWS.

Firefighters are still on the ground protecting properties from the 157,448.4-hectare blaze, particularly in and around Clinton.

“Crews remain engaged on all sides of the Village of Clinton. They are mopping up and patrolling for hot spots around structures,” said the BCWS.
