Recreational off-road vehicles banned in Kamloops and Cariboo fire centres

KAMLOOPS — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has banned off-road vehicle use on Crown land in the Kamloops and Cariboo fire centres in an attempt to avoid sparking additional fires.

This comes as B.C. is facing extreme wildfire danger, as over 100 burn across the province, with the largest in the province’s southern interior.

“Given the scope and scale of fires currently burning in B.C., and the elevated danger ratings in many southern regions of the province, this prohibition is being put into place to further protect public safety,” said the BCWS.

The ban came into effect at noon (PT) on Monday, August 10, and applies to the Kamloops, Cariboo, Coastal and Southeast fire centres.
