KAMLOOPS — Starting Tuesday (August 4), major work will continue on Kamloops’ Southill Street/Tranquille Road intersection as part of the ongoing Tranquille Road Sanitary Main and Road Enhancement Project Phase 3.

Starting Tuesday, the City will encourage traffic and transit to detour north via Desmond Street.

The City said Southill Street will be closed at Tranquille Road, but the southeast sidewalk will remain open with gravel access.

“Traffic will be reduced to single lane alternating during the day and two-lane traffic at night. Please follow the posted signs and follow the direction from the traffic control personnel,” said city officials.

The construction zone will only be open to local traffic, and drivers and pedestrians are urged to be careful.

“Motorists, pedestrians, residents, and businesses are asked to use caution in the area and follow all traffic control signage and directions from crews on site,” said the City

“There are multiple obstacles within the construction work zone including, but not limited to, heavy equipment, raised vertical pipes, exposed utility access points, poles, dirt, and gravel piles. Heavy equipment has the right-of-way within active construction zones.”

Depending on weather conditions, this part of the project is expected to continue until mid-September.
