UPDATE: Barriere-area fire brought under control

BARRIERE, B.C. — UPDATE (8:45 p.m.): BC Wildfire Service says the fire is under control.

EARLIER: BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) crews are responding to a new wildfire start along Barriere Lakes Road east of Barriere.

The fire, discovered Saturday (Aug. 1) burning near Chip Creek, is mapped at less than 1 hectare as of Saturday afternoon. It is believed to be human-caused.

“We are aware of a fire in the 2000 block of Barriere Lakes Road,” Barriere Fire Rescue said in a statement. “Our crews are on scene assisting BCWS. BCWS has also deployed two crews and a [helicopter] in case it is needed.”
