Former Clearwater nurse suspended amid allegations of mishandled drugs

VANCOUVER — A former Clearwater nurse has had his license suspended after four separate B.C. hospitals complained about mishandled drugs.

The complaints submitted to the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) came in over a two-month period, beginning February 17, 2026, from Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital in Clearwater.

That was followed in close succession by reports from hospitals in Dawson Creek, Abbotsford and Burnaby – the last submitted on April 18, 2026.

“All the complaints raised concerns over narcotic handling, administration, documentation and possible diversion,” said the BCCNM in a notice posted to its website.

On June 23, the college suspended Mark Wade’s license and issued a Summary Protection Order while it undertakes an investigation.

“The Investigation Committee made the Summary Protection Order given concerns that the licensee may have been working while not fit to practice, the possibility of narcotic diversion and a failure to be forthcoming with the college,” notes the BCCNM, which adds the concerns have not been fully investigated and have not been proven.
