UPDATE: Wildfire near Westwold being held at 12.24ha as crews tackle pair of Chase-area fires

“Crews are currently seeing rank 2 and 3 fire behaviour which just means a ground fire with minimal open flame, and a slow to moderate rate of spread,” Nessman said in an interview around 3:30 p.m. “We did have air tankers requested but due to the weather conditions in the area and the down-draft in the winds, it was unsafe for our pilots to fly.”

Nessman added this fire is suspected to be human-caused.

“Until we have our fire origin and cause experts on site, it can only be suspected caused,” Nessman added.

Another fire along Chase-Falkland Road, south of the Village of Chase, is currently listed as under control. While it’s still estimated to be spot-sized, this fire is believed to have been sparked by lightning.

“We did have a helicopter tanking but it had completed all of its achievable objectives and it has since moved on to a different fire,” Nessman said in an interview around 5:45 p.m. “Crews are working on wet line and containment at this time but I don’t have any information on the fire behaviour though.”

Forests around Monte Lake were heavily scorched by the White Rock Lake wildfire in 2021.

A third fire on Adams Lake Indian Band land is currently burning out of control at 0.4 hectares in size. Located south of Aylmer Lake on the Sahhaltkum IR 4, the fire is suspected to be also be lightning-caused.
