Kamloops-trained Katzberg wins Commonwealth gold with games-record heave

GLASGOW — Kamloops-trained hammer throw superstar Ethan Katzberg has another gold medal – and another event record – to add to his collection.

Katzberg took gold in the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland Monday (July 27).

His throw of 80.97 metres is a games record and exactly four metres further than silver medallist Iosif Kesidis of Cyprus threw (76.97 metres). Rowan Hamilton of Chilliwack won bronze with a 75.36 metre throw.

Katzberg, the reigning Olympic champion, still lives and trains in Kamloops.
