Evacuation measures expand north, east due to raging Fiftynine Creek fire near Clinton

EARLIER: The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has added another set of properties to those under evacuation notice north of Clinton due to the growing Fiftynine Creek fire.

As of Saturday afternoon (July 25), the evacuation order now applies to 299 properties in the TNRD’s Electoral Area ‘E’, up from 280 properties Friday evening.

The following properties were added Saturday:

1537 to 1912 Chasm Rd
1160 to 1848 Hwy 97
2504 River Lakes FSR

Residents whose properties are now under evacuation order must leave immediately. Those wishing to receive emergency social services are asked to check in with reception centres set up in Williams Lake, Quesnel or 100 Mile House. Full details can be found here.

In addition to the evacuation order, nearly 700 properties in the area are now under evacuation alert, including the community of 70 Mile House, which was put on alert Friday.

Residents whose properties are under evacuation alert must be prepared to leave on very short notice.

The amended alert area now stretches east to Green Lake and west to the Fraser River, joining with an area under existing evacuation alert due to the French Bar Creek fire. It can be seen in the map shown above.

Discovered on July 17, the Fiftynine Creek fire has ballooned to 16,723.5 hectares (about 167 square kilometres) as of Saturday.
