New Boston Bar-area fire has eclipsed 40 square kilometres, less than a day after discovery

BOSTON BAR, B.C. — The fire that led to an urgent evacuation in Boston Bar Tuesday (July 21) has already added more than 40 square kilometres of new burned area to the Brunswick Complex.

The BC Wildfire Service says the Anderson Creek wildfire was discovered Tuesday afternoon, just off Highway 1 south of Boston Bar. The two fires previously part of the Brunswick Complex – Brunswick Creek and Ainslie Creek – are burning to the west and north of the village, respectively.

Flames from the new fire quickly spread up the hillside, keeping it ahead of helicopter bucketing activity.

As of Wednesday afternoon, BCWS estimates the fire size at 4,333 hectares, or about 43 square kilometres.
