Drone helped Kamloops RCMP investigate gunshot reports Tuesday

KAMLOOPS — Details are few about a major police response to gunshot reports in Kamloops Tuesday (July 21) afternoon.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier says the detachment received two separate reports of gunfire along the North Thompson River around 1:05 p.m. Tuesday. While a specific location wasn’t released, police say their investigation focused along the south shore of the river, near Victoria Street West.

Officers from both the city and Tk’emlúps Rural detachments flooded the area, eventually using technologically advanced equipment to help determine what happened.

“As part of the coordinated response to support frontline police, our Forensic Identification Section deployed a drone to assist with the search,” said Napier. “During the early stages of the file, investigators have learned that a robbery took place and two people of interest have been identified.”

Police have not released any more details about the two people of interest. They’ve also not said where the robbery is believed to have occurred or what was stolen.

“We are still trying to confirm the shots fired and where they came from and where they were directed to,” Napier said. “At this time, we have the two people identified as people of interest in this investigation.”
