Kamloops among recipients of provincial funding to improve EOC operations

KAMLOOPS — Multiple emergency operations centre (EOC) projects in the Thompson, Nicola and Cariboo regions have received provincial funding.
The B.C. government says it’s committing $3.5 million to 110 projects that support local EOC operations. The province says the funding through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund goes toward exercises, equipment and training to better support communities during emergencies.
The City of Kamloops received $30,000 for a full-scale exercise, section equipment and connectivity supplies to test and strengthen EOC operations.
“Funding received in 2025 supported the training of our emergency operations centre team, replenishment of critical supplies and reorganization of our EOC based on lessons learned from a previous exercise, strengthening our ability to support the community during emergencies,” Ty Helgason, the city’s emergency preparedness manager, states in a news release issued Tuesday (July 21). “With this year’s funding, we will build on these improvements by exercising our trained team within the updated EOC environment and further strengthening our emergency-management program.”
