Kamloops police service dog hangs up her harness

KAMLOOPS — Neeka, a police service dog, is hanging up her harness and leaving police work behind to retire to a Kamloops family home.

Kamloops RCMP officials said Neeka, born in 2020, graduated from the Police Dog Service Training Centre in Alberta before joining the Kamloops detachment in 2021.

She also served on the Southeast District Emergency Response Team.

“Neeka is retiring due to medical reasons and will join the Neds Wish program supporting medical needs into retirement,” said Corporal Steve Prior, Police Dog Service handler for Neeka. 

“We will be celebrating all of Neeka’s great work with her favourite treat, a bagel.”
