Farm2Chefs grazing event set for Sunday at Privato Wintery

KAMLOOPS — The next edition of the Farm2Chefs grazing event is set for this Sunday (July 19) at the Privato Vineyard and Winery in Westsyde.

Established in 2010, Farm2Chefs aims to link local food growers and producers with culinary professionals in a bid to showcase locally produced items. This year’s grazing event will feature about 30 food and beverage participants who are coming together to celebrate the Kamloops food scene.

“It’s a great way to bring awareness to the food that’s available in our community,” Jared Summers, the president and treasurer of Farm2Chefs, said. “It tries to connect the vendors at the farmer’s market and other farmers and ranchers to these local chefs and purveyors and help them be able to utilize those ingredients in ways they may not be able to fit into their every day menus.”

“It’s a great opportunity for them to get creative. It’s a great opportunity for residents to also get introduced to some of these different services and different providers.”

Through past events, Farm2Chefs was able to raise $25,000 for BGC Kamloops and $20,000 for the Kamloops Regional Farmers’ Market Society. Summer said the goal this year is to raise $25,000, with proceeds going to the Kamloops Food Bank and the Lot YKA.

“We haven’t done two before as far as beneficiaries go, but we picked the two because they both have great needs that we’d be able to fill,” Summers said. “The money that we’re able to raise would be able to fit the initiatives that they’re wanting to use that for, so we thought, ‘Hey, why not? Let’s get ambitious and do both.'”

This Sunday’s event gets underway at 5:00 p.m. and you can buy tickets or make donations toward the cause online here.
