Two 13 hour daytime closures coming to 100 Mile House ER this week

100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — Residents in the 100 Mile House area will be without emergency room coverage for the majority of each of the first two days of this week.

Interior Health says the ER at the 100 Mile District General Hospital will be closed between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday (July 13 and 14). No cause is listed, but the health authority says people in need of emergency care should head to Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake.

“Interior Health recognizes that these changes may have a significant impact on the community and that transparent notification is important,” the health authority said in a statement. “Our teams remain committed to working to cover these shifts right up to the day of each potential service interruption.”

“If coverage is secured and an interruption is avoided, we will provide an update to the community.”

Once such instance was on July 5 when Interior Health said it was able to find coverage to reduced a planned 21 hour ER closure from 11:00 p.m. on July 4 to 8:00 p.m. on July 5. The health authority revised that and the ER was closed for nine hours from 11:00 p.m. on July 4 to 8:00 a.m. on July 5.

These upcoming closures at the 100 Mile District General Hospital will be the 24th and 25th of the year. If it goes ahead as scheduled, the facility in the south Cariboo will have been closed for 327 hours since the start of 2026.

Last week, the health authority said it had made some progress in addressing the staffing shortages in 100 Mile House, and that it has been working with local partners on a task force to improve stability.

As has been the case for previous emergency room closures, Interior Health says people should call 911 if they need emergency care, or HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 if they aren’t sure if they need to head to the emergency room.
