Michael, the biographical film chronicling Michael Jackson’s life, has become the first biopic ever to surpass $1 billion worldwide. The film has earned $371.8 million domestically and $629.8 million overseas for a $1.001 billion global total. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jackson’s real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson, the film opened to $97 million domestically in April, breaking the musical biopic record set by Straight Outta Compton. It also surpassed Bohemian Rhapsody ($911 million) and Oppenheimer ($975 million). Fuqua said the milestone “belongs to everyone who came together with a shared vision to honor one of the greatest artists the world has ever known.”
