Pleased with free plays, Merritt man discovers $1M Lotto 6/49 win

MERRITT, B.C. — A Merritt man has some extra cash to fund a home renovation after a recent $1-million Lotto 6/49 windfall.


BC Lottery Corporation says David W. was first delighted by winning some free plays before he realized he won a seven-figure jackpot.

“When I first checked, I saw zeroes, but what really caught my eye was the two free plays I won. Then I realized I had won $1 million!” he said in a news release issued Wednesday (July 8).

David added both his son and his neighbour cursed in surprise upon hearing the news.

“[My son] said the f-word! [Then my neighbour] said get out of here and said the f-word. I told them they were supposed to congratulate me, not swear at me!”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Merritt Walmart store. David says he plans to use his winnings to finish a home renovation project.
