The project was shot in secret, mirroring Cohen’s approach on his Borat films. Ali G, a streetwise hip-hop slang-speaking interviewer, originally appeared on Channel 4’s The 11 O’Clock Show before headlining Da Ali G Show on HBO in the early 2000s. Past interview subjects included Noam Chomsky, Andy Rooney, and Newt Gingrich. A spokesperson for Cohen declined to comment.
