EARLIER – A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the Nicola and South Thompson regions, along with the northern portion of the Fraser Canyon, including Lillooet.

In a statement Tuesday (June 29) morning, Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain, large hail and strong wind gusts near Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Kamloops and Merritt.

“Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility,” Environment Canada states.

The weather agency also warns that driving conditions may be difficult.

Residents are encouraged to go indoors when they hear the sound of thunder.
